WSROC statement on SBS relocation decision

Harmony Day event underway in Western Sydney Harmony Day event underway in Western Sydney WSROC

The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) is disappointed by the Federal Government’s decision not to proceed with the relocation of the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) to Western Sydney.

Western Sydney remains Australia’s most culturally and linguistically diverse region, and a natural home for a national broadcaster dedicated to multicultural storytelling.

While we acknowledge the outcome of the feasibility review, the original proposal reflected a strong and sensible vision.

We see this as a temporary setback rather than a closed door.

WSROC looks forward to continued engagement with the Australian Government and Treasury to explore practical pathways that could support a future relocation.

We remain confident that, over time, the case for SBS to have a stronger presence in Western Sydney will only grow.
