Litter Enforcement Training at Fairfield City

Litter Enforcement for Authorised Officers training underway Litter Enforcement for Authorised Officers training underway WSROC

On Wednesday (6 May 2026), WSROC’s Regional Litter Prevention Officer facilitated 'Litter Enforcement for Authorised Officers' training for Fairfield City Council.

19 enthusiastic participants now better understand their powers under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 and the differences between the various ‘deposit litter’ offences, which range from $160 to $5,000.

These compliance officers now have a range of skills to predict when someone is going to litter and how to effectively obtain their details.

This training upskills council compliance officers to enhance their effectiveness in issuing littering fines and formal warnings, reducing litter in the environment and decreasing clean-up costs for councils.

WSROC offers both Introduction to Litter Prevention and Litter Enforcement training sessions for free to the 7 councils that participate in the Western Sydney Regional Litter Prevention Program. These councils include:
• Blacktown City Council
• City of Parramatta
• Cumberland City Council
• Fairfield City Council
• Hawkesbury City Council
• Liverpool City Council (NSW)
• The Hills Shire Council

WSROC can also deliver litter prevention training to other interested NSW councils.
