WSROC Strategic Priorities 2022 - 2026 as endorsed by the WSROC Board

WSROC’s advocacy is guided by a set of strategic priorities developed by its member councils. These priorities include issues that are important right across the Western Sydney region including:

Supporting our communities

Supporting communities is at the heart of everything WSROC does. Focusing on equity and inclusion, WSROC works with councils and partners to build a resilient Western Sydney; where every individual and community can survive, adapt and thrive. Read more

Financial resilience of councils

Well-funded councils are essential for delivering quality local infrastructure and services. From roads to swimming pools, libraries and waste collection, council services are the backbone of local communities – yet their funding is uncertain. Read more

Housing

Housing supply and affordability are among the greatest challenges facing communities and councils across Western Sydney. Truly affordable housing must consider the costs of energy bills, insurance, transport and service access. Read more

 Climate Change and Resilience

Climate change impacts are already being felt in Western Sydney with residents impacted by extreme heat, flood, bushfire and storms in the last decade. Predictions indicate the region will suffer some of the greatest impacts of climate change. Read more at the following links:

Waste management and resource recovery

Councils are responsible for providing essential waste and recycling collection services to households and managing the processing or disposal of collected waste. As one of Australia’s fastest growing communities, Western Sydney’s waste generation is expected to increase by 6% to 1 million tonnes by 2041. Read more

Employment and skills attraction

While Western Sydney is rapidly growing, there remains a significant deficit of local jobs. Councils and communities are suffering from the impacts of skills and labour shortages, which slow economic development and hamper productivity.  Read more

Transport and infrastructure

Western Sydney has long experienced a backlog in transport infrastructure, especially public transport. As our region grows, transport investment is needed to address congestion, reduce cost-of-living, support local economies, improve access to services, and meet NSW’s Net Zero targets.

WSROC is focused on ensuring major infrastructure investments like Western Sydney International Airport benefit the region in terms of jobs and investment, whilst minimising impacts to community and environmental health, transport congestion, local economies and regional assets such as the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. Read more.

Western Sydney International Airport

The new Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) will bring significant change to Greater Western Sydney, including both opportunities and challenges.

It is essential that benefits are maximised and impacts minimised through ongoing consultation with local government and communities across all stages: from design, through construction and operations.

WSROC has been closely monitoring the progress of the Western Sydney Airport since the early 1990s. Read more.
