Recently (4 February), WSROC’s Regional Litter Prevention Officer, Brendon Andrei facilitated Introduction to Litter Prevention training with staff from Hawkesbury City Council.

The participants were from different departments and were members of Hawkesbury City Council’s Litter Prevention Steering Committee. The training aimed to further upskill this motivated group and enhance their knowledge of litter prevention and behaviour change principals.

During the training, participants learnt how to:

  • Identify litter hotspots and conduct litter counts.
  • Identify causes of litter issues and design interventions to address these.
  • Create and manage litter prevention projects.
  • Define key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understand behaviour change principles and apply to project design.
  • Understand various bin infrastructure considerations and maintenance.
  • Understand littering fines, supporting legislation and reporting systems.
  • Design-out litter issues through development assessment conditions and planning considerations.

The training was well received and participants provided the following feedback:

‘Brendon has a wealth of knowledge and delivers that clearly in a way that’s easy to understand’.

‘I found the litter prevention project activity very useful as it gave an opportunity for all relevant departments to input what they think would work’.

‘The knowledge and information from this training will help me significantly in my role’.

This training is provided free to councils participating in WSROC’s Western Sydney Regional Litter Prevention Program.

Councils who have also participated in this training include Blacktown, Blue Mountains and Cumberland. To book a session convenient to you, contact Brendon Andrei on 9671 4333 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
