A decade of advocacy is paying off, with NSW Government funding secured for household asbestos collection trials from 2027.

More than a decade of advocacy and program delivery by WSROC and Western Sydney councils has helped secure NSW Government funding for trials of household asbestos collection services from 2027.

Western Sydney councils have been at the forefront of developing practical approaches to household asbestos disposal, with regional programs coordinated by WSROC safely collecting and disposing of more than 109 tonnes of asbestos from Western Sydney households.

Government support will help reduce barriers for residents, improve safe disposal options, reduce illegal dumping and ease the financial burden on councils.

The announcement is an important recognition of the innovative work undertaken by Western Sydney councils and a significant step towards a more consistent approach to managing this legacy waste.
