An increasing number of renters and homeowners across Australia are being targeted by scammers, falsely warning occupants that their trees could be a hazard and need to be removed.
These scams usually involve:
- Door knocking houses or leaving cards in mailboxes
- Saying that trees are sick, dying or dangerous
- Trees require urgent removal
Scammers working without permits leave property owners and renters with a mess, the bill and potential fines for removing trees without approval!
Before you or anyone else interferes with vegetation or trees on your property, and to protect yourself against scams, always:
✅ Check with your local council if a permit or approval is needed to remove vegetation or a tree on your property
✅ Work with qualified contractors
✅ Report any suspicious incidents to your local council or police.
