Better planning can make waste collection safer, more efficient and less costly. Find out what councils are learning together.
WSROC recently brought together council staff from across Greater Sydney for a forum focused on waste collection vehicle specifications and collection efficiencies for apartments.
The session brought together 69 council staff from 34 councils to explore how vehicle engineering, planning controls and service requirements can influence the safety and efficiency of waste collection, particularly in new medium and high-rise developments.
The discussions highlighted the value of considering waste collection requirements early in the planning and development process. Better design can support safer and more efficient services while reducing operational challenges for councils and costs for the community.
The forum also provided an opportunity for councils to share experiences and learn from each other, helping identify opportunities to strengthen planning controls and development assessment processes.
WSROC has delivered this regular waste planning forum since 2017, supporting councils to improve planning outcomes and ensure new developments can accommodate safe and efficient household waste services.
