Heatwaves present risks to Greater Sydney’s health, environment, economy and urban systems. Their impacts are increasingly well documented, and as the climate changes, more frequent and severeheatwaves could cause these impacts to escalate. The Heatwave Management Guide supports councils todevelop locally-tailored approaches by helping them: • Identify existing and potential roles • Build on their strengths • Understand where they can have the greatestimpact • Make the case for new initiatives • Access evidence and best practice examples. The Heatwave Management Guide is organised into seven main topics, reflecting the way that councilsare structured and operate: risk assessment, strategic planning, council operations, cool places, community resilience, communications emergency management. This guide was developed by Civille for WSROC and Resilient Sydney under the Greater Sydney Heat Taskforce Program. The project was supported by the Disaster Risk Reduction Fund(DRRF), jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments. |
