Media and Communications Officer

Part-time position for 21 hours a week

Salary $65,000 - $75,000 pro rata (depending on qualifications and experience)

The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) represents eight local councils in the Greater Western Sydney region. With a reputation for considered policy analysis and advocacy, WSROC brings a collective voice to those issues which are crucial for Western Sydney’s growing population. WSROC’s ongoing commitment to the region is demonstrated by its advocacy initiatives, project work and joint procurement programs.


WSROC is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Media and Communications Officer to take up a diverse role within a small organisation where there will be an opportunity to demonstrate your expertise in project and corporate communications, as well as media management.


Working closely with the CEO and the wider WSROC team, you will assist in promoting WSROC through the implementation of sound communications strategies, programs and effective media management. You will focus on government and media relations, stakeholder communications, as well as a broad range of project communications. The role includes opportunities to be involved in researching and preparing advocacy campaigns and promoting the work of WSROC both internally and externally.


This position requires someone with strong writing ability, a good news sense, and an ability to build relationships across a broad range of stakeholders. You must be capable of working under pressure and delivering to tight deadlines. Familiarity with Western Sydney and a strong understanding of how local government operates will be favourably considered. The successful candidate will possess a tertiary qualification in media, communications or a related field with at least three years’ experience in a similar role.
