Oil or other hazardous material spills need to be dealt with in
an effectiv
e manner. Several organisations are combat agencies which each
having specific expertise and equipment to deal with the effects
of a particular hazard. Combat agencies include the NSW Fire Brigade,
NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Police, NSW Agriculture and State Emergency
Services. In an emergency Combat agencies may request support and
assistance from other agencies including the Department of Environment
and Conservation, Department of Community Services, NSW Health,
RTA, State Rail and Local Government.
The role of Local Government is to provide material and equipment
resources such as sand or earth-moving equipment, local knowledge
and labour at the request of the responsible Combat Agency or another
Support Agency.
